Historically investors have typically turned to gold during tough financial times. The problem is many smaller investors simply cannot afford the near $1600 spot price of gold. Yet, silver offers some of the every same hedge properties that gold does. The difference is silver trades at only $29 per ounce.

If you currently invest in gold consider diversifying into silver. The reason is silver typically performs better than gold. During the current turmoil going on as a result of recent European Union elections, silver has remained steadfast, while gold has lost ground. Gold will of course bounce back, it always does.

Buying silver at its current wholesale price is the way to garner big speculative profits, because silver will likely hit $40 per ounce before the close of 2012. Furthermore, if dollars are needed, silver is highly liquid and can easily be bought or sold virtually anywhere on earth.

Even the smallest of investors can afford to buy silver. You can start by purchasing bags of pre-1965 silver junk coins. Large investors typically purchase silver bullion bars because they are worth more than silver junk coins or silver bullion coins. The 1,000 ounce silver bar is the standard unit for trading silver, and all bars are hallmarked which ensures the weight and purity of each bullion bar. This serves to protect both buyer and seller.

Silver bullion coins are another popular way to invest in silver. The American Silver Eagle is minted by the US government, and is sold through authorized coin dealers. The government guarantees the weight and purity of each Silver Eagle. The Eagle does offer a nominal worth of one dollar, but the coin’s real value is determined by the silver spot price. The same is true for silver bullion bars.

Silver is an industrial metal, and is used in electronics, healthcare, jewelry, and the metal is strong and can withstand high temperatures. Like gold, silver has been securing men’s assets for thousands of years, and it still serves this purpose today. As a result, gold and silver make the perfect tandem investment.

Finally, silver offers similar hedge properties as gold, but costs much less. The current spot price of silver is $29 per ounce and has been very stable recently in light of the current economic turmoil in Europe. Since silver typically out-performs gold, those who invest in gold should diversify into silver. The precious metal silver is the best bargain investment around.

As popular of a hobby as coin collecting has proven to be over the years, it isn’t one of the easiest hobbies for people to get into. This might seem strange at first as coin collecting essentially just boils down to amassing a large amount of coins, but finding a good starting point is something that many potential collectors are going to struggle with, especially when you consider the fact that anyone who is just getting started with their very own coin collection is likely going to find themselves more than a little overwhelmed with the number of choices that are going to be available for them. Things can become even more complicated when you consider the fact that there isn’t really going to be anyone to outright ask about which coins would be best for a new collector. At best, you would be able to get some advice from people, but ultimately coin collectors are going to have their own different reasons for wanting to add coins to their collection, so the best they can do is give generalized advice.

Still, this advice can at the very least help to narrow things down a little bit. Usually coin collectors will want to collect coins for a few different general reasons, such as wanting coins that are going to be valuable, or wanting coins from a specific time era, or even just wanting coins that are made out of a certain precious metal, and coins that symbolize moments in history not limited to just one specific era. One of the big things that coin collectors can at least agree on for anyone who is just getting started with their collection is that they should try and not spend that much money on just one initial coin. This won’t be a requirement of course, but if someone wants to start a collection it will be much more rewarding if they are able to add a few coins to their collection at first instead of just spending their money to acquire one specific coin.

Gold American eagle coins are going to be a popular choice amongst coin collectors because they are able to appeal to so many new collectors. These coins are obviously going to be valuable as well as being a point of patriotic pride for many, making them one of the best choices for new coin collectors since it will be a very special coin for many, something that is perfect for starting a new collection.

You cannot determine the price of silver bullion by looking at its monetary exchange rate. This is because it has endless value. In fact, its history actually dates back to 700 B.C. (the Iron Age). During that time an Asian kingdom by the name of Lydia used the first silver coins. Originally these coins were alloyed with gold and thus they were called electrum. However, pure silver coins were eventually made.

Once large deposits of silver were discovered in America in the 1900s a lot of nations actually began using gold as their form of currency. The abundance of silver during this time meant that there was less demand for silver. However, the production of both gold and silver diminished whenever the use of paper currency was finally introduced in the 1970s. Then in 1979 the last silver coins in circulation were minted. Now coins are made of nickel, zinc and sometimes copper.

Today buying and selling silver bullion coins has actually turned into a business. This is because there are a lot of silver coin collectors who are in search of genuine silver coins that contain approximately 99.9% pure silver. One of the most popular coins of this type is the American Silver Eagle, which was originally released in 1986 and has been in circulation ever since then thanks to the U.S. Mint.

Silver coins are now popular not only because of the silver that they contain but also because of their aesthetic value. There are a lot of collectors who enjoy purchasing them to add to their personal coin collection. For this reason, there are a lot of reliable dealers in business today who will sell sets of four coins. These sets can cost you up to $500. On the other hand, if you prefer to purchase silver coins in bulk, you can buy rolls of 25 coins and save yourself a great deal of money in doing so. This is because these coins usually cost less per piece whenever they are sold in this manner.

Since the 2008 recession there has been a decline in major currencies throughout the world. Silver bullion’s price was never affected though. This is because its value has been recognizable ever since the Lydians first discovered it in 700 B.C. Surely silver will continue to be just as valuable in the future as it was then, which is why everyone should invest at least a little money in it.

Gold’s current boom run is over a decade old, and the value of gold remains high. Most people think investing means the stock market. Other folks simply try to save money by placing their cash in savings accounts. Unfortunately, savings accounts don’t even keep up with inflation, and stocks are unstable. However, gold has flourished over the last ten years, and is still the ultimate investment.

In 1971 President Nixon divorced the United States from the gold standard. In essence this was the start of what is now called the global economy. The dollar now floats against other flat currencies to determine its value. The dollar has weakened over the last decade, despite its recent strength against the Euro. The real spending power of the dollar has declined significantly. Yet, gold value has remained high.

Since stocks are so unreliable, and savings accounts offering little or no return on savings where can people invest their money and receive a high return with minimal risk? The answer is gold. Precious metals perform better during times of economic turbulence and high inflation. Europe and its debt crisis have provided plenty of fuel to keep gold high.

Greece despite receiving its bailout is still could default. Spain is in peril of becoming the next Greece, and other EU nations have their own serious economic problems. There is still a chance Europe could skid into recession. In other words, there is still enough financial problems going on in Europe to keep gold going strong for the foreseeable future.

Europe is not the only positive pressure being applied to gold. The last jobs report in the United States was dismal, and food and energy prices are rising. While gold investors were disappointed the Federal Reserve decided not to inject the economy with more stimulus money, gold has remained high without it. A stimulus package would have pumped more cash into the US economy essentially weakening the dollar. Gold usually rises when the dollar weakens.

China’s economy has affected gold prices too. Wages are on the way up in China, so inflation is a concern, and their economy has slowed down. Since the EU is buying fewer goods from China manufacturing while growing has slumped. This serves to keep upward pressure on gold. The weak American economy, Europe’s debt problems, and China’s slowing economy will keep gold stable and at a high spot price. Gold is best investment going.

Today people have a difficult time trusting one another. In fact, it is just as rare as finding a really rare coin. This is because it is quite popular to collect, buy and sell antique, gold and silver coins. It is in this way that they are attempting to secure their future. However, getting into this business is difficult. You will need to go through some tough times before things will really start working themselves out for you.

Learning The Coin Dealer Business

It is important to learn about the coin and precious metal investment business in depth. There is a lot of great information available about the many different coins that were minted in the United States, as well as in the rest of the world. You should also learn about coin auctions and events by attending them. Truth be told, these really are the best places to learn a lot of information about coins, coin collections and their rarity. One other thing that you should learn about is distinguishing fake from real coins.

One Final Thing To Remember

One final thing that you will want to remember regardless as to whether you’re a collector, buyer or seller is that you need to have a trusted relationship established with a reputable coin dealer. This is because in the coin collecting business you will always be dealing with coin dealers. For this reason, you’ll want to form an impressive list of coin dealers that you trust not only with your money but also with your whole collection. Sometimes this can be difficult to do but it is nonetheless important to set as a goal to work towards.

How To Find A Coin Dealer

There are several ways in which you can find a trusted coin dealer, including:

Attend auctions and other events.

Ask friends and family members who are into coin collecting for a referral.

Get involved in the online coin collecting community: forums, auctions and anywhere else that coin collectors hang out is where dealers can also be found.

Conclusion

If the only thing that is holding you back from putting together a great coin dealer, then stop worrying. There are a lot of ways to find one. Even the most common person today will be able to establish such a relationship since coin collecting is no longer a royal hobby today.

The Professional Numismatics Guild (PNG) is not-for-profit organization run by experts in the field of coin numismatics. The organization was founded in 1955 and has since gained a reputation for excellence among experienced coin collectors. Coin dealers are allowed to join the PNG as long as they meet many strict requirements. If you are searching for a rare coin dealer, your best bet is to opt for one who is a member of the PNG and/or other widely recognized coin organizations.

A few criteria that must be met in order for a rare coin dealer to be accepted for membership with the PNG include:

Coin dealer must have coin assets that are worth at least $250,000. The benefits of choosing a dealer who holds such significant assets is that they are more likely to be experienced and their longevity in the business is more certain.

PNG dealers must adhere to proper representation of their coin assets. In other words, they cannot falsely advertise or falsely present their coins. This ensures that you know exactly what you are getting when you purchase a coin from them.

The average coin dealer who is a member of the PNG has more than 25 years of experience in selling and purchasing authentic coins.

PNG dealers must adhere to the PNG’s Collector’s Bill of Rights. This will offer you a great deal of protection when purchasing coins from a PNG dealer.

PNG dealers must adhere to a binding arbitration process should any disputes arise over coin purchases or with any other numismatic products.

As stated on the PNG website, the objective of the organization is to “make the hobby safe for collectors and investors by maintaining rigid standards of excellence for our member dealers.”

There are several additional professional coin numismatic organizations that a rare coin dealer may be accepted as a member of. These include the Numismatic Literary Guild, the American Numismatic Association, the National Silver Dollar Round Table, and the Numismatic Guarantee Corporation of America. If you are searching for a coin dealer that you can trust, it is a good idea to search for one that is a member of several of these organizations. Since most of these organizations follow a strict membership acceptance process, choosing a dealer who is a member of several of these trade organizations will significantly boost the protection offered you when purchasing coins.

If you are looking for a new hobby that offers a glimpse into the past, fascinating historical significance, along with lucrative possibilities, you may want to consider the hobby of coin collecting. Hoarding coins is a time-honored investment strategy that has been known to be a positive addition to any financial portfolio. Collecting coins is also akin to a modern day treasure hunt and trying to seek out these rare coins can be an incredibly thrilling endeavor for anyone who may have even the slightest interest in numismatics.

If you are curious about coins, you are certainly not alone. Collecting these thin metal discs has been a celebrated and cherished pastime for many people from historians to numismatists. Gold and silver coins have truly captured the heart of countless coin collectors worldwide and will continue to do so for many years to come.

As you begin your journey into the world of coin collecting, there are a few steps to consider. The first is whether you are interested in coins as an investment vehicle, for their unique history, or a combination of both. Some collect rare gold or silver coins along with proof coins minted by the US government.

If you are simply trying to invest in coins for their precious metals content, your best bet may be purchasing gold or silver bullion coins. There are several bullion coins that have been produced by numerous countries. The Krugerrand, struck in 1967 from South Africa was the first mass produced gold coin that was made available to the general public for gold consumption.

Following the Krugerrand, many nations issued their own bullion coins, including the United States’ Gold American Eagle, as well as Canada’s Gold Maple Leaf. There are a variety of coins on the market that are very popular and collectable and if you are interested in them, an established dealer can guide you in the right direction.

Rare coins make a wonderful investment because their scarcity adds significant value to them. Some rare coins can be worth thousands of dollars or much more and if you are able to procure one. There many reasons to collect coins. Due to the poor economy many investors now collect both rare coins and bullion coins for one reason, profits. There has never been a better time than right now to invest in silver bullion coins, because the economic conditions are right for the spot price of silver to go up significantly.

To understand the nature of gold value in China, investors benefit to learn a bit about the cultural practices and norms that can potentially impact these types of assets. China, one of the world’s largest markets for gold, celebrates its Spring Festival toward the end of January every year. Consequently, you will see a consistent spike in the gold market in China during this period of time.

Many Chinese think that the purchase of gold during this period can potentially bring good luck to the buyer. The Spring Festival celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year. Each year, over 300 million Chinese citizens travel in order to participate in the holiday.

This past January, the Spring Festival, China Daily reported close to a 60% increase in sales during the seven-day holiday. Guohua, a major Chinese city, saw a double in sales during the same period time, reports the Beijing’s Municipal Commission of Commerce. One Beijing based gold vendor grossed 600 million Yuan during the week of the festival. This equates to approximately $95 million in US currency.

Comparing gold sales during 2012′s spring festival with sales during the same week of the previous year, you will find that they have doubled. In the onset of Chinese economic prosperity, they harbor a consistently growing middle class of consumers with a taste for luxury items. As a result, commodities like gold previously represented ownership to a small, wealthy elite. This becomes less true as time progresses. Designer stores continue to proliferate in this region, catering to the growing demand for designer jewelry and other gold products in a widening demographic.

Another factor that makes gold appealing in the area is that, compared to other investments, you can exchange gold directly into capital without much trouble due to its ubiquitous presence. Economists predict that China will surpass India in its current position as the largest consumer of gold at the national level. By around 2020, the yearly consumption of gold in China may rise to as much as 955 metric tons.

As a nation, China faces an interesting cultural dilemma. Some would argue that adoption of western style capitalist practices have enabled this newfound prosperity of the country. The question remains: does this fact entail that an embracing of western consumer culture, such as audacious displays of wealth, threaten something innate to Chinese identity, or is this only a reactionary fear perpetuated by xenophobic traditionalists?

Millions of people around the world enjoy collecting different types of coins and precious metals. There are so many different coins that have been produced, both in the United States and other areas around the world, which are worth having, especially if you are a collector and enjoy having these coins as part of your collection. If you are interested in buying coins, bars, or even bullion, it is important that you go through a coin dealer to make sure that your transaction will be completely legitimate. There are quite a few questions that you should have; prepared to ask any of the coin dealers you choose to do your transaction with.

For starters, you should ask about the different purity levels and the value of each of these different coins and precious metals. You will also want to know how well these precious metals are currently doing on the market, as the price for certain precious metals, particularly gold and silver, continuously fluctuate. You should also ask the coin dealers how you can go about buying these different coins and precious metals from them. Usually, upon purchasing the coins, you will have the option to have the coins sent out to you are saved in a secure storage unit.

When doing a transaction with coin dealers, especially this type of transaction, where a lot of money is put out as an initial investment, it is important to make sure that the company or the specific dealer is, in fact, legitimate. How can you go about doing this? All you really need to do is check with the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau provides information on accredited businesses and will easily inform you of whether or not the coin company is accredited, providing a rating of anywhere from A-F, F obviously being the worst and A being the best overall grade that a company get. It is also important to remember that you can ask as many questions as you like. It is essential that you feel comfortable making these transactions with the dealer, knowing that you can trust in them and that you are doing the right thing by making an investment in these particular coins, bars, and bullion. A top quality dealer of coins will make sure to spread some of their knowledge with you, letting you know what you are doing before you make the purchase.

Recently in the news, there was a man who was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay over $600,000 in restitution for pretending to be a rare coin dealer and stealing people’s coins. His ploy was to convince elderly men and women that he could evaluate their collection and then sell it for them. He often talked to them for several weeks and eventually persuaded them to mail him their rare coin collections. Of course, he simply stole the coins and never offered them any money. The good news is that he is behind bars but the bad news is these types of scams happen every day!

You may well think you could never be tricked in such a way, and you might be right, but there are a lot of scams out there and learning about them can only help guide you in the right direction. For instance, some dealers will have a coin graded, and then swap the valuable coin for a less than worthy one, while still selling it at the much higher price! This is just one of many sleazy schemes that have been pulled on the unsuspecting buyer. This is why it is so important to have a trust worthy rare coin dealer.

How do you go about choosing a dealer? No matter if you are looking for a local dealer or a dealer online, quality dealers all seem to have many of the same easy to spot qualities. To begin with, you want to look for a company that has been in the business for years. Age alone does not make a great coin dealer, but often the ones who have been in business for so long are able to stay in business because they keep their customers happy. An established business is also less likely to suddenly pack up the store and move in the middle of the night.

A rare coin dealer with memberships in prestigious coin groups, such as the PNG, is also a great sign that you are dealing with a professional. Also, if dealing with a dealer online be sure that they offer phone consultations. You can really get the feel for the personality of a company over the phone, and see if they are a good fit for you. If you are still uncertain about a certain company, look for reviews or talk to previous customers.

Finding a good quality rare coin dealer can give you confidence and make your coin collecting experiences a real pleasure!
